Why the Daewoo / Winia Mini Was So Appealing
The Daewoo Mini, later sold under the Winia name in some markets, solved a real problem.
Most compact washing machines are still floor-standing appliances. They may be smaller than a full-size washer, but they still need floor space, storage space, and a practical place to live. On a boat or RV, that can be the whole battle.
The Daewoo / Winia Mini was different because it was wall-mounted. That made it especially interesting to cruisers, liveaboards, RV owners, and anyone trying to add laundry to a space that was never designed for a normal washer.
The problem was finding one that made sense for North American boats and RVs.
The Origin: Why We Built Clever Mini
SV Confianza came with a European top-loading washer installed in a forward closet. It was heavy, used most of the closet, and ran on 230V European power. When we converted the boat to U.S. power, that washer became more trouble than it was worth.
So we went looking for a replacement.
Portable top-loaders were cheap, but many used too much water and were awkward to store. Traditional “marine” washers were often too large for the space we had. The Daewoo / Winia Mini kept coming up because the wall-mounted form factor was so close to what we wanted.
But the more we looked, the more the same problem came up: the versions people could actually find were usually built for 220–240V markets, not ordinary North American 120V installs.
At some point we realized that we were not going to find an option that fit our needs, so, we did what any totally sane person would do, start an entire appliance company.
That became Clever Mini.

Why You Can’t Find a North American 120V Daewoo Mini
Was there a normally available, supported, North American 120V Daewoo / Winia Mini washer?
Daewoo / Winia did make various versions in English targeted for the USA market, but those were targeted to Australian and used their standard 230 V / Hz power.
Based on the evidence we’ve found, the answer appears to be no. The DoE CCMS clothes washer certification data does not list any Daewoo, Winia, or Dongbu Mini wall-mounted washer models listed. That is the kind of compliance trail we would expect to see for a consumer clothes washer normally distributed in the United States.
The next logical question is
Is it worth seeking out a grey-market, discontinued, hard-to-support appliance?
For most North American buyers, a current 120V alternative makes more sense.

Why Focus on 120V?
A 220–240V appliance may be completely normal in Europe, Australia, or many other markets. But it is not the default for most U.S. and Canadian boats and RVs.
Quality transformers to support 230V are expensive, heavy, and waste power on conversion losses. Cheap transformers are often a failure or even fire risk.
